KAMPALA — Thousands of Ugandans turned up for the 52nd Birthday Run of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, an event organisers described as a growing national movement promoting charity, unity and patriotism.
The run was led by a representative of Gen Muhoozi, who said he was honoured to serve as the Chief Runner on behalf of his “senior brother” during the charity event.
In a speech delivered on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi reflected on the evolution of the birthday run from what he described as a private celebration into a national event bringing together Ugandans for a common cause.
According to the speech, the transformation of the annual run was inspired by encouragement from several leaders and public figures, including Frank Tumwebaze, Daudi Kabanda, Lillian Aber and Andrew Mwenda, as well as support from young people across the country.
The speech noted that the growing participation encouraged organisers to turn the event into a broader platform for service, patriotism and national unity.
Gen Muhoozi also expressed appreciation to Ugandans who participated in large numbers, saying their support demonstrated a shared commitment to community causes and collective responsibility.
Participants from different sectors, including youth groups, security personnel, political leaders and supporters, joined the run in an atmosphere marked by celebration and calls for solidarity.
Organisers said proceeds and activities linked to the run are intended to support charitable initiatives, although specific beneficiary programmes were not immediately disclosed.
The annual birthday run has in recent years grown into one of the country’s high-profile public events, attracting participants from across Uganda and the diaspora.
