KAMPALA — Investors from MOHAN MUTHA INFRASTRUCTURES have unveiled plans for a multi-million-dollar port and logistics development project on the shores of Lake Victoria aimed at boosting regional trade and improving Uganda’s transport infrastructure.
The proposal was presented during a meeting held at the SHIPU offices on Monday afternoon, where the investors, led by Mr. Rajesh Chaplot and Mr. Praful Mutha, met with Col. Edith Nakalema.
According to details shared during the engagement, the proposed development will include the construction of a modern port covering approximately 55,498 square metres, alongside major investments in shipping and logistics, road construction, and water solutions.
Dubbed the “Port City Development Project,” the initiative is intended to strengthen cross-border transportation and facilitate increased exports within the region.
The investors said the project would also help reduce the number of heavy trucks on Uganda’s roads by shifting part of cargo transportation to water routes, a move expected to ease traffic congestion and improve logistics efficiency.
Officials noted that enhanced water transport on Lake Victoria could significantly lower transportation costs while improving connectivity between Uganda and neighbouring countries involved in regional trade.
The investors are seeking a partnership with the Government of Uganda to implement the project, which they described as transformative for infrastructure development and economic growth.
If approved, the project is expected to create employment opportunities, expand trade capacity, and support Uganda’s long-term plans to modernize transport and logistics systems.
