Bhambhatt Samaj Uganda honors Tirupati founder, Harshad Barot, for earning prestigious Crested Crane Medal award

Bhambhatt Samaj Uganda has held a celebratory event in honor of Harshad Maganbhai Barot, who was recently conferred the Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane (Grand Officer) by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

The event, attended by members of the Bhambhatt community, business leaders, and well-wishers, recognized Barot’s contribution to Uganda’s economic development and his growing legacy within the Indian diaspora.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Miraj Harshad Barot expressed gratitude to the Samaj for organizing the celebration and acknowledging his father’s achievements.

“This award reflects the values our community stands for—integrity and hard work. My father arrived in Uganda in 1993, and we are proud to call Uganda home. This honor belongs to every Ugandan of Indian origin who has contributed to this great nation,” he said.

Special appreciation was extended to the organizers, led by Bhambhatt Samaj Uganda Chairman Mr. Sachin Brahmbhatt, alongside Mr. Nitesh Brahmbhatt and Mr. Nilesh Brahmbhatt, for coordinating the event.

Barot’s recognition follows a similar honor earlier this year by the Sindhi community in Uganda, which presented him with a Sindhi Pride Award in acknowledgment of his national recognition.

He was officially decorated with the Distinguished Order of the Crested Crane (Grand Officer) on January 26, 2026, during the NRM/A Victory Day celebrations held at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The medal is among Uganda’s highest honors and is awarded to foreign nationals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the country’s development.

Born on January 3, 1959, in India, Barot moved to Uganda in 1993 with a modest capital of USD 150, starting out as a door-to-door trader. Over the years, he has built a reputation as one of Uganda’s leading real estate developers, reflecting a journey defined by resilience, enterprise, and long-term investment in the country’s growth.
