KAMPALA — The Executive Director and Chief Statistician of the Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Dr. Chris N. Mukiza, has been honoured with the Rotary Vocational Service Award in recognition of his leadership and contribution to strengthening Uganda’s statistical systems.
The award was presented by the Rotary E-Club of Ntinda during a ceremony held at Statistics House in Kampala in April 2026.
According to Rotary leaders, Dr. Mukiza was recognised for steering Uganda’s statistical systems and ensuring the production of quality and reliable data to support national planning and development priorities.
Rotary District 9213 Governor Mike Sebalu commended Dr. Mukiza for his exemplary leadership, professionalism, and integrity in public service, noting that his work has strengthened evidence-based decision-making in the country.
Speaking after receiving the award, Dr. Mukiza dedicated the recognition to the entire UBOS team, saying it would serve as motivation to continue enhancing Uganda’s statistical capacity and improving service delivery.
“This recognition is not only for me but for the entire bureau that works tirelessly to provide credible statistics for national development,” Dr. Mukiza said.
Dr. Mukiza has served as Executive Director of UBOS since 2019 and was recently reappointed for another five-year term, reflecting confidence in his leadership and performance at the helm of the national statistics body.
Under his leadership, UBOS has expanded data collection systems, strengthened digital statistical operations, and enhanced the accessibility of official statistics for policymakers, researchers, and the public.
