MASAKA — The Uganda People’s Defence Forces Armoured Division has conducted a 30-kilometre route march around Masaka as part of efforts to assess troop readiness and strengthen operational effectiveness.

The exercise, code-named “Mwendo wa Chuma,” was aimed at evaluating soldiers’ physical fitness, endurance, stamina, teamwork and cooperation while enhancing overall combat preparedness.

Speaking during the exercise, Pande Kajuba, the Division Commander, emphasized the importance of continuous training within the force.

He described regular drills and field exercises as critical pillars in building professionalism, discipline and operational capability among troops.

Brig Gen Kajuba noted that maintaining high levels of physical and mental preparedness is essential for ensuring the division remains ready to execute its mandate effectively.

The route march attracted participation from senior and junior officers, as well as other troops attached to the division.

Also in attendance was the Deputy Division Commander alongside other commanders and officers who monitored the exercise.

Military officials said the exercise forms part of ongoing training programmes aimed at sharpening the readiness and coordination of personnel within the Armoured Division.

The UPDF has in recent years intensified field drills, route marches and specialised exercises as part of broader efforts to strengthen force preparedness and professionalism across its units.
