Size Challenge
Kampala, Uganda — The Directorate of Logistics and Engineering of the Uganda Police Force has provided two specially made pairs of size 17 police shoes to an officer who had struggled for years to find fitting footwear while serving in the force.
No. 82378 PPC Olepus Jovian, attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Napak District, officially received the custom-made shoes during a handover ceremony held at the Directorate headquarters in Kampala.
Since joining the police force, PPC Olepus had reportedly faced persistent challenges securing standard police shoes due to his unusually large foot size, affecting his comfort and mobility while carrying out daily assignments.
The shoes were handed over by James Apora, the Director of Logistics and Engineering, in the presence of the officer’s father.
Speaking during the ceremony, AIGP Apora described the case as one of the most unique welfare concerns the Directorate had encountered, prompting officials to place a special order to ensure the officer is properly facilitated.
“We could not allow one of our own to continue working without proper footwear. His case opened our eyes to the need for advance planning in handling special welfare requirements for officers. I thank him for remaining patient and never feeling neglected by the Force,” Apora said.
The Directorate also commended Police Management for prioritizing the welfare of officers, emphasizing that every officer deserves dignity, support, and proper facilitation while serving the country.
Officials noted that the initiative reflects the force’s growing commitment to addressing the personal welfare needs of its personnel to improve morale and operational effectiveness.
For PPC Olepus, the delivery of the custom-made shoes marked more than just the resolution of a long-standing challenge. It also served as reassurance that the institution recognizes and values the well-being of its officers.
