KAMPALA – Ugandan authorities have arrested more than 200 foreign nationals in an ongoing operation targeting illegal immigration and unlicensed business activities across the country.
According to Simon Mundeyi, the crackdown is focusing on individuals found living or operating in Uganda without valid work permits, visas, or the necessary business documentation.
Officials say many of those arrested are allegedly engaged in illegal business operations in violation of Uganda’s immigration and trade regulations.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs noted that the enforcement operations are intended to strengthen compliance with immigration laws, protect legitimate businesses, and ensure that foreign nationals working in Uganda meet all legal requirements.
Authorities added that investigations and verification exercises are ongoing, with some suspects expected to face deportation or prosecution depending on the outcome of the screening process.
Security agencies and immigration officers have reportedly intensified inspections in major business centres and urban areas as part of wider efforts to curb unlawful commercial activities and improve regulation of foreign labor and investment.
The government has urged all foreign nationals residing or conducting business in Uganda to regularize their immigration status and obtain the appropriate licenses and permits to avoid legal action.
Officials say the operations will continue in different parts of the country as authorities seek to enforce immigration and business laws more strictly.
