Nakawa Court Chief Magistrate Ritah Neumbe Kidasa has sent Uganda Boxing Federation President Moses Muhangi to Luzira on Thursday!
Muhangi was initially arrested and detained at Central Police Station in Kampala on Tuesday.
He was on Thursday presented to Nakawa Magistrate Court where he was charged for forgery and falsification when accounting for Government funds.
Muhangi, who has been a big critic of National Council of Sports and General Secretary Bernard Ogwel, will remain at Luzira Prisons until May 31.
He goes to Luzira a day after Uganda Netball Federation President Sarah Babirye Kityo received her bail.
Issues of Accountability
On Monday, NCS Chairperson Ambrose Tashobya called out some sports federations including UBF that they have refused to account for Government funds required by the law.
Tashobya said: “It is our wish that all these federations receive and spend money in a manner which fits the law so that they can come back for more, but there is a high level of adamancy from some of the federations claiming we are overburdening them with accountability.”
In that sitting, the Public Accounts Committee handed Muhangi and the former accountant of UBF, Lydia Namuleme, to the Parliament Police Criminal Investigations Department for further management on allegations of forgery, uttering false documents and misappropriation.
Ogwel, on Monday night, advised Muhangi: “He should clear what he is being asked for by the Public Accounts Committee with proof and facts, and that’s it. He will be free.”
Luke Owesigire, the Deputy Spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan Police, has stated: “Muhangi has been arrested on alleged case of forgery and false accountability.”
