Golf Championship 2023 Welcomes Johnnie Walker as Title Sponsor in Uganda


Uganda’s illustrious annual golf event, the Uganda Open Golf Championship, is set to return for its 82nd edition at the Uganda Golf Club on Thursday, October 12th. The announcement was made at a press launch held at the Uganda Golf Club, where Johnnie Walker, the iconic whisky brand, was introduced as the title sponsor for the JW Uganda Golf Open 2023. The sponsorship deal is valued at Shs 410 million, underlining the brand’s commitment to enhancing the golf tournament.

During the press briefing, Johnnie Walker Brand Manager Christine Kyokunda unveiled the brand’s exciting plans for the Open. The brand intends to provide guests, golfers, and enthusiasts with memorable experiences at the Hospitality villages. This space will feature a dedicated lounge for players and offer an immersive golf and whisky experience, along with exciting 19th hole experiences.

James Ochen, Head of Sales Operations at Uganda Breweries, expressed excitement about their involvement in the Uganda Golf Open, emphasizing the exceptional nature of the event.

The event, held at the scenic par-70 golf course at Kitante, will feature various competitions, including the Ladies Open, Seniors Open, Amateur Open, Pro-Am, and the highly anticipated Professional Open.

Moses Matsiko, the President of Uganda Golf Union, anticipates a record-breaking turnout and emphasizes the comprehensive and exciting nature of the tournament.

Emmanuel Wamala, the Captain of Uganda Golf Club, confirmed the course’s readiness to host the tournament and thanked the Title sponsor, Johnnie Walker, and other partners for their support.

In addition to Johnnie Walker’s support, the event has attracted sponsorship from various organizations, including NBS Sport, Pinnacle security, Aquafina, HTC, Case Medservices, Medisell, Orchard Interiors, and Absa Bank.

Registration for the golfing event is now open through the Uganda Golf Union web portal.
