KAMPALA – The Government has approved the implementation of the Trade Order following a Cabinet sitting held on the 27th, in a move aimed at strengthening orderly, structured, and sustainable trade across Uganda.
According to officials, the decision underscores the government’s commitment to improving the country’s trading environment by enhancing regulation, streamlining commercial activities, and promoting fairness within the marketplace.
The Trade Order is expected to provide a more organized framework for trade operations, helping businesses operate within clear guidelines while supporting economic growth and consumer protection.
Government leaders say the implementation will also help address challenges associated with unregulated trade practices, improve coordination among traders, and create a more predictable business environment for both local and international investors.
The approval comes at a time when Uganda continues to push for increased industrialization, regional trade integration, and expansion of domestic markets under broader economic transformation strategies.
Officials noted that orderly trade systems are critical in boosting revenue collection, improving product standards, and ensuring that businesses comply with existing laws and regulations.
Stakeholders in the business community have welcomed the move, saying a well-structured trading system can strengthen confidence among investors and contribute to long-term economic sustainability.
The government is expected to work closely with relevant ministries, agencies, and trader associations during the implementation process to ensure smooth enforcement and nationwide compliance.
