Security agencies in Kaabong District have arrested three suspects, including a man believed to be a notorious armed raider and commander of armed warriors in the area, following a joint operation conducted on April 17, 2026.
According to Uganda Police spokesperson Rusoke Kituma, security agencies received intelligence at around 5:00 p.m. indicating that the suspect was drinking waragi at Napeikodo Centre in Lomeris Parish, Kaabong West Sub-county.
A joint team comprising personnel from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) responded swiftly to the information, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.
Among those arrested was Ngora Alinga Lonyangateba, a resident of Morulem Village in Lomeris Parish, who authorities describe as a notorious cattle raider and leader of armed warriors operating in the area.
Police said that during preliminary interrogation, the suspect admitted to possessing a firearm and provided leads on individuals believed to be in possession of the rifle.
The suspects were subsequently transferred to the UPDF 45 Battalion Headquarters in Kaabong for further management and ongoing investigations.
Security agencies said operations are continuing in the area to recover the firearm and apprehend any additional suspects linked to criminal activities.
