URA Commissioner Abel Kagumire Engages Manufacturers on Tax Compliance and Digital Systems
Uganda Revenue Authority Commissioner for Customs, Abel Kagumire, has engaged manufacturers during the Kampala UMA-URA Regional Tax Clinic, where he addressed key concerns affecting businesses, including tax compliance, EFRIS implementation, and digital tax systems.
The engagement, organized in partnership with the Uganda Manufacturers Association, brought together manufacturers and business operators to discuss emerging tax administration issues and ways of improving compliance within Uganda’s business community.
During the session, Kagumire emphasized the importance of embracing digital tax systems as part of government efforts to improve efficiency, transparency, and revenue collection.
He guided manufacturers on the implementation of the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing System (EFRIS), explaining its role in strengthening tax administration and reducing tax leakages.
The Commissioner also provided detailed clarification on the tax waiver framework, outlining eligibility requirements, application procedures, and the benefits available to compliant taxpayers.
According to Kagumire, businesses that maintain proper compliance records may qualify for relief on penalties and interest, easing financial pressure and supporting business continuity and growth.
He encouraged manufacturers to work closely with URA to resolve tax-related concerns and take advantage of available support mechanisms designed to promote voluntary compliance.
Participants at the tax clinic welcomed the engagement, saying it provided an important platform for dialogue between the tax authority and the private sector.
The Kampala regional clinic forms part of ongoing URA outreach initiatives aimed at improving taxpayer education, strengthening compliance, and enhancing cooperation between government and businesses across Uganda.
