The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force has concluded its second Commanders’ Drill Competition at the Uganda Air Force College in Nakasongola District under the theme, “Commanding the Skies and Leading on the Ground.”
Presiding over the closing ceremony on behalf of the Commander Air Force, the Chief of Staff – Air Force, Brigadier General David Gonyi, underscored the importance of drill in building a professional and effective military force.
Brig Gen Gonyi said drill plays a vital role in strengthening discipline, cohesion, operational readiness, teamwork, and mission focus within the force.
He noted that military drill is not merely ceremonial, but a critical component of operational effectiveness and command responsibility.
“Precision and coordination in drill are more than a show. They represent the ability to move as one team and reflect the professionalism, discipline, and readiness of the force,” Brig Gen Gonyi said.
He commended the participating commanders and officers for their dedication and commitment throughout the competition, saying such exercises are essential in sharpening leadership skills and reinforcing military standards.
The competition brought together commanders and personnel from different UPDF Air Force units to demonstrate drill excellence, coordination, and leadership abilities.
The UPDF Air Force said the annual competition is intended to promote professionalism, strengthen command capabilities, and enhance unity within the force as it continues to modernise and improve operational effectiveness.
